Trampas A. Whalin is an Indiana attorney with more than 15 years of experience guiding clients through criminal defense, estate planning, personal injury, civil litigation, and family law matters. He represents clients throughout Indiana and is admitted to practice before all Indiana state courts, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
Trampas’s interest in criminal law took root before law school. He graduated with honors from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology, and while there worked at a residential treatment facility for juvenile offenders, gaining early, formative exposure to the criminal justice system and the people it affects.
He went on to graduate with honors from the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Indiana Health Law Review, was a member of the Dean’s Tutorial Society, and worked as a Certified Legal Intern with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in the Major Felony Division.
Trampas began his legal career at the firm formerly known as Adler Tesnar & Whalin, now Adler Attorneys. He now owns and operates Whalin Legal.
Criminal defense has anchored Trampas’s practice throughout his career. He has represented both adults and juveniles across the full spectrum of charges, from misdemeanors like OWI and theft to serious felonies involving violent crimes, sex offenses, burglary, and homicide. His courtroom experience spans probation-violation hearings, plea negotiations, diversion, dismissals, and both bench and jury trials, including cases that ended in not-guilty verdicts. He also represents clients in civil forfeiture matters.
Trampas handles a broad range of family law matters, including divorce, legal separation, property division, parenting time, child support, paternity, guardianships, relocation, protective orders, contempt proceedings, enforcement of settlement agreements, and post-decree modifications. He has represented clients in contested hearings, negotiations, and mediation, and is a Registered Family Law Mediator.
His practice also extends to civil litigation and personal injury matters, where he has taken cases through trial and resolved others through negotiation and mediation. He is also a Registered Civil Mediator.
Trampas grew up in Southern Indiana and has called Noblesville home since 2010. His years of practice throughout the state, including extensive experience in Hamilton County, give him a practical, on-the-ground understanding of Indiana’s courts and the real concerns his clients bring to the table.
